Ole Miss Broke or Tied 64 Statistical School Records Among 2015 Achievements
OXFORD, Miss. – The 2015 season was one for the ages for the Ole Miss Rebels.
The culmination of a group of superbly talented players, Hugh Freeze and his staff’s up-tempo style of play, a renewed vigor in the Ole Miss fan base, and the opportunity for the highest levels of success in the Southeastern Conference Western Division produced a hallmark season in Oxford, Mississippi.
Ole Miss’ 48-20 victory over Oklahoma State in the Allstate Sugar Bowl capped the team’s first 10-win season since 2003 and the fourth straight season with a higher win total than the previous year. There were many other accomplishments the Rebels hadn’t achieved in quite some time, like a second straight nine-win regular season for the first time since 1962 and a fourth straight bowl game for the first time since 1971.
But what might have been most remarkable about the 2015 Ole Miss football season was the number of first-time achievements and school records.
A whopping 64 Ole Miss team and individual records were broken or tied in 2015, including most total yards, points, touchdowns and passing yards in a season. Quarterback Chad Kelly and wide receiver Laquon Treadwell made resounding cases for their status as Ole Miss icons with the number of records they set on the field – 17 and 15 respectively – surpassing such names as Eli Manning, Bo Wallace, Donte Moncrief and Chris Collins.
With Alabama winning the national championship, Ole Miss can say for the third time in its history that it was the national champion’s only loss. The Rebels also upended Notre Dame in 1977 and Florida in 2008.
The Rebels beat Alabama, Auburn and LSU in the same season for the first time ever. As if winning wasn’t hard enough, the Rebels went on the road to defeat the two Alabama schools in their state for the first time in a single season. The Rebels’ 38-27 Egg Bowl win over Mississippi State was their first in Starkville since 2003 and one of a school-record five total wins over ranked opponents.

- Laquon Treadwell was the Rebels’ first Biletnikoff Award finalist.

- Hugh Freeze is the first Ole Miss coach to guide the Rebels to bowl appearances in each of his first four seasons.
